Land Rover Range Rover Velar

The Range Rover Velar comes in between the larger Range Rover Sport and the smaller Range Rover Evoque. It’s a very elegant looking SUV, but quite pricey to alternatives.

Arguably the most stylish SUV on the market today!

The Range Rover Velar is your purchase when you compromise good looks over price and space. The car feels very premium from the outside, but also the inside is topped with every luxurious material you can wish for. The infotainment system in this Velar looks spectacular with a three-screen layout. You get one screen behind the steering wheel, one screen in the middle of the dashboard and another below it which lets you change the climate control settings, driving modes and seat heating. Unfortunately, the infotainment system isn’t as intuitive and easy to use like on German alternatives.

Just like the bigger Range Rover, the Velar model can also tackle challenging terrains through its Terrain Response system designed to manage drives over grass, gravel, snow, mud, sand and rocks. Comparable car to the Range Rover Velar is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, it has a comparable size and similar design philosophy. Both cars go for a sporty look and drive.

How practical is it?

The cars sleek design has not compromised practicality at all. The Range Rover Velar has enough storage spaces all-round and a large boot for two-large suitcases. Where the nicer design did drawback is on visibility, the sleeker design creates a huge blind spot on the A pillar and overall rear visibility. Although it is supposed to be smaller than the Range Rover Sport, it still is almost as big. So manoeuvring around town isn’t as easy as the Evoque.

Performance, economy & price

You can get the Velar in plenty of engine specifications, the least performing engine is the Diesel D180 – it’s punchy enough for regular driving and the most economical. The one you really need is the D240, it’s the best engine in terms of performance and economy.
